With the festive season upon us i've been thinking about what it actually means to other people and its significance for me. My family has recently grown as we celebrated the arrival of a new baby boy in October. This year I am even more excited about Christmas. It was the holiday of the year as a child. We never travelled anywhere special or exotic as it was a time that family got together - aunts, uncles, cousins (which we have a lot of)! The house always felt full, vibrant and happy. I hope to replicate that for my 2 children as they grow up.
A few nights ago my partner and I watched an interesting, short video. Have you come across the TED talks on You Tube yet? They are brilliant and definitely worth 15 - 20 minutes of your viewing time. To quote their website "TED conferences bring together the world's most fascinating thinkers and doers ... We believe passionately in the power of ideas to change attitudes, lives and, ultimately, the world. So we're building a clearinghouse of free knowledge from the world's most inspired thinkers, and also a community of curious souls to engage with ideas and each other. "
Below is a link for a really interesting TED talk by Dan Buettner -
The longevity to health and old age. Basically life is all about having self worth, meaningful friendships and a sense of community. It's really worth taking a look!
I guess that for me no matter what people's beliefs are at this time of year the importance of just spending time with one another is what matters the most. I wish you all much happiness for Christmas and into 2014.
