When I was in my early teens I would often baby sit for our next door neighbours. The two young girls I looked after were beautiful in nature. I always found something a little strange when I went there though. Permanent notes were stuck around the house with positive affirmations written on them. I had never really come across anything like this before. The one that has always stayed with me is "you are only 6 inches away from success and those 6 inches are between your ears." Strange? May be to foreign eyes but i've never forgotten it. A few years down the line and I was living out of home, working part time and going to university. I don't recall the details exactly but I know that my bedroom was covered in positive affirmations. I think they were mainly for motivation to study. The seed had been planted! A friend I made around that time admitted that he thought I had 'issues' when he first saw them posted to my bedroom walls. Fast forward a year and he appreciated the couple I put up for him in his bedroom. (He was dealing with some demons of his own). Positive affirmations are just that - positive! I guess that people could view them as 'cheesy' or 'corny' but I think more often than not we are never really taught how essential self respect is. On first glance they may appear silly but positive affirmations have a great way of sinking into our subconscious. They allow us to accept that 'Yes I Can,' whatever that may mean to you. I am going to try harder each day to remind myself of positive thoughts. No harm can come from it, it can only create great things - the snowball effect. I hope that you too can find the time to think kindly towards yourselves. |
